Original acrylic and glitter painting by indigenous New Zealand Māori artist, Taryn Beri of the Ngāti Toa, Te Atiawa and Ngāti Raukawa tribes.
The 'Divine Origins' series consists of 15 paintings painted over a short intense period of time in which the artist painted and painted non stop for about a two week long period in isolation. Taryn states 'the symbols I have used are mostly ancient so-called 'primitive' designs that can be found in old Māori art and some of them can also be found in other ancient cultures. The series of paintings is about our human connection to a divine source through our connection to nature. Humans come from Papatūānuku (The Earth Mother) and Ranginui (The Sky Father) who are inherently 'divine' and so too are we through our association with them. These paintings are a reminder of our connection to a divine source and our ancient and divine origins as humans.'
